It’s officially fall here in Michigan! The leaves are changing colors, Halloween decorations are popping up everywhere, and the weather is finally cooling down. It was a busy Friday for me. As soon as I opened my eyes, I knew it was going to be one of those hectic days where work takes precedence over everything else.
I started my day at the crack of dawn to get a head start on work due to all those impending project deadlines. The only reprieve I got was a quick jaunt to a nearby Mediterranean restaurant for a falafel sandwich. Even then, I couldn’t escape the clutches of work entirely, as my project manager pinged me with an urgent message. The world today is a hyper-connected one, after all – a fact that I couldn’t help but laugh about.
Fridays are my designated restaurant days, and I have a soft spot for Mediterranean cuisine. This particular place makes heavenly sandwiches that lack any off-putting odors. Crispy falafels, freshly made pita wraps – it’s a culinary delight that never disappoints.
But let’s get back to the whirlwind of my day. Who wants to be working straight for 12 hours on a Friday, right? However, I must remind myself that being busy is a blessing, and I shouldn’t complain too much. It’s just that, sometimes, the project timelines can throw a wrench into one’s plans, like my company’s personal development day, which typically falls on the last Friday of the month.
After logging off work, I plopped onto the couch to relax and treated myself to the final two episodes of the romantic Korean drama series Business Proposal on Netflix. I’ve become a huge K-drama fan over the last year or so. It started when I binged the thriller Squid Game during quarantine and got me hooked on Korean entertainment. Since then I’ve also loved Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and Extraordinary Attorney Woo. I’m excited to check out more Korean and Japanese shows soon! Business Proposal was a light, cute watch that I’d rate 7/10. It provided the dose of escapism I needed after my long workday.
On a more practical note, I got my flu shot last weekend and was almost tempted to get the Covid booster shot from the pharmacist. However, I decided to hold off on that for a little while longer. Flu shots have proven their worth for me over the past decade – I can’t remember the last time I got sick during flu season. I highly recommend getting vaccinated; from personal experience, it can save you from a lot of misery.

As September draws to a close, I can already see Halloween decorations sprouting up in my neighborhood. Some of my overzealous neighbors are adorning their lawns with giant skeletons. Meanwhile, the leaves have started their graceful descent, carpeting my driveway with a mosaic of red and yellow from the hickory and maple trees. It’s a vibrant display of autumn colors all around.
The weather forecast promises sunny days with highs in the 70s for the next couple of days. It’s going to be absolutely gorgeous, and I might treat myself to some cider and donuts at the nearby Windmill. There’s even a creek there to complete the idyllic scene. Michigan offers the full spectrum of four seasons, and right now, it’s all about the stunning fall colors.
That’s my day wrap, folks. How’s your weekend looking? Feel free to share – I’m always eager to hear from you. Wishing you a relaxing and enjoyable weekend.
Love, Vipin
