Life Lessons (and Laughs) from Hanging Signages

Who would’ve thought a quick trip to Hobby Lobby could double as a crash course in humor, life advice, and quirky wisdom? While I had gone there as an unwilling chauffeur to my date, Vani, who needed sewing supplies, I soon found myself lost in an aisle brimming with hanging signages. These weren’t just pieces of home decor; they were life lessons disguised as jokes, motivational pep talks, and sassy one-liners.

Take this gem for example: “If a man says he will fix it, he will. Don’t ask him every six months about it.” I couldn’t stop laughing. It’s the kind of sign that makes you pause and think, “Yeah, that’s oddly accurate.” Perhaps it’s a subtle callout to procrastinators, or maybe just a plea for patience. Either way, it struck a chord.

And then there was the hilariously protective dad-themed sign titled “Rules for Dating My Daughter.” Among its hard-hitting truths were: “Have a job,” “Understand I don’t like you,” and “I’m everywhere.” I could picture this hanging in the living room of a dad sharpening tools while giving a young suitor the stink eye. Hilarious and terrifying at the same time!

Some signs, however, offered more practical advice—delivered with a spiritual twist. My favorite of this category read: “Wash your hands and say your prayers because Jesus and germs are everywhere.” Equal parts hygiene reminder and faith-based wisdom, it made me chuckle while simultaneously wanting to sanitize my hands.

For those in need of a little heartwarming motivation, the aisle didn’t disappoint. One standout quote was: “Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.” It’s a reminder to cherish the messiness and imperfections of life. Whether it’s the laundry you didn’t fold or the dreams you’re still chasing, there’s beauty to be found in the journey itself.

Another favorite of mine was the timeless kitchen mantra: “Life is too short to drink bad coffee.” Simple, relatable, and a firm reminder to treat yourself better—one good cup at a time.

For those who enjoy a little sass with their humor, signs like “Welcomish: Depends on who it is” or “I’m not arguing, I’m just explaining why I’m right” add a cheeky twist to everyday interactions. These are the signs you hang up for guests who appreciate the art of subtle shade—and maybe a little honesty.

Even the more philosophical ones had a touch of humor: “Do more of what makes you happy…unless it’s illegal.” A witty reminder that life is about balance—find joy, but maybe not too much! And who could resist the blunt but honest: “Sometimes I wake up grumpy…other times, I let him sleep.”

Browsing through these signs felt like scrolling through a highlight reel of humanity’s quirks and humor. It’s amazing how much wisdom (and sass) can fit on a wooden plaque. From signs that make you giggle to those that remind you to keep dreaming, they offer something for everyone—whether you’re decorating your space or just killing time while someone else shops.

As for me, that hour I spent with these signs was far more enjoyable than I’d expected. It turns out a little humor on a piece of wood can turn a mundane errand into a moment of joy. And the best part? I now have plenty of ideas for witty wall decor to spruce up my space—and keep visitors laughing!

So the next time you see a sign that speaks to you, don’t underestimate its power. It might just make you laugh, reflect, or both. And if you’re wondering, yes, I did survive the Hobby Lobby adventure. The reward? Delicious gol guppas at home. Now that’s a sign of a good day!
